Vana was born in 1889 in Baker Springs, Pike Co., AR. Vana's father was Harvey Landon McCarrell and her mother was Martha Ann Elizabeth Pinion. She had five brothers and two sisters, named Jerimiah, Lorenzo, Simon, James, Harvey, Alice and Nanna. She was the fifth oldest of the eight children. She died at the age of 75 on May 13th, 1964 in Bradley, Lafayette Co., AR.¹
