Bessie was born on March 27th, 1915 in Rodeo, New Mexico. Bessie 's father was Pleaze Wiley Sanders and her mother was Mollie Lou Holder. Her paternal grandparents were James M. Sanders and Sarah Poteet Weaver. She had two brothers and a sister, named Please, Francis and Meda . She is the third oldest of the four children.
