David was born on November 9th, 1850.  David's father was William Hansford Sanders and his mother was Nancy Sawyer.  His paternal grandparents were Julius  Sanders and Penelope (Parthenia) Fields. He had a brother named Henry.  He was the younger of the two children. He had two half-brothers and four half-sisters, named William, George, Mary, Belle, Mattie and twins.
