William was born on May 6th, 1878.  William's father was William Hansford Sanders and his mother was Martha Stallcup.  His paternal grandparents were Julius  Sanders and Penelope (Parthenia) Fields. He had a brother and four sisters, named George, Mary, Belle, Mattie and twins.  He was the fourth oldest of the six children. He had two half-brothers named Henry and David.
