Dabney was born on September 25th, 1897 in TX.  Dabney's father was Daniel Franklin Sanders Jr and her mother was Bennie Henderson.  Her paternal grandparents were Daniel Franklin Sanders and Mary “Pauly” Messer. She had four brothers and two sisters, named Willie, Charles, Ira, Guy, Gladys and Miriam.  She was the youngest of the seven children.
