Bertha was born on December 5th, 1908 in Gillham, Arkansas.  Bertha's father was JaHugh P. “Jacie” Sanders and her mother was Alice Jane McCarrell.  Her paternal grandparents were Hansford Newton Sanders and Mary Catherine “Katie” Weems; her maternal grandparents were Harvey  Landon McCarrell and Martha Ann Elizabeth Pinion. She had three brothers and three sisters, named Clarence, Elmer, Henry, Pearl, Lela and Vergie.  She was the fifth oldest of the seven children. She had a half-brother named O'Dell.  She died at the age of 47 in February 1956 in Broken Bow, OK.  She was buried in February 1956 in Broken Bow Cemetery, Broken Bow, OK.
