Lela was born on April 13th, 1910 in Gillham, Arkansas.  Lela's father was JaHugh P. “Jacie” Sanders and her mother was Alice Jane McCarrell.  Her paternal grandparents were Hansford Newton Sanders and Mary Catherine “Katie” Weems; her maternal grandparents were Harvey  Landon McCarrell and Martha Ann Elizabeth Pinion. She had three brothers and three sisters, named Clarence, Elmer, Henry, Pearl, Bertha and Vergie.  She was the sixth oldest of the seven children. She had a half-brother named O'Dell.  She died at the age of 81 on November 24th, 1991.  She was buried in Liberty Hill Memorial Gardens, Smith County, Tyler, TX.1
