Martha was born in 1868.  Martha's father was David Stephen Sanders and her mother was Harriett H. Stewart.  Her paternal grandparents were Julius  Sanders and Penelope (Parthenia) Fields. She had seven brothers and three sisters, named William, Lorenzo, Daniel, Hansford, David, James, Allen, Narcissa, Sarah and Martha.  She was the youngest of the eleven children. She had two half-sisters named Missouri and Hattie.
